Bloggers, Booze and Ice Cream - Anyone Got Chocolate?
Kieran over at Ice Cream Ireland left a comment on a previous post:
It would be fun to get business bloggers together. I really think it’s an interesting way to connect with customers or possible customers. Of course we have the connection through our shops, but it’s hard, especially this time of year to always find out what people think!
And it occurred to me that it's been a while since Irish bloggers met up in Dublin (Blog Awards I think?)...So, I'm wondering if people would be interested in a summer get together in August? It would be great to get business people out at this one and I'll also be hosting a visit from two US bloggers Gary and Lorianne between 13 and 23 August and I'm sure they'd like to hook up with some Irish counterparts. How about Saturday 19th August? with an open invitation to anyone who blogs, reads blogs, is interested in starting a blog to join us for a summer drink and a get together in Dublin city centre? Leave a message in the comments. Oh yea, I think it would be fabulous PR for those ice cream, champagne and other goodie companies to do shameless self promotion and product placing on the day :)

What, a bloggish welcome party? Why, that would make me feel like an outright celebrity, especially if there were plenty of ice cream & champagne on hand. Or then again, plain old beverages would suffice...

I'm not sure I'd be able to make it on a Saturday, but one of the Bubble gang's shameless self-promotion experts might be interested. At about the same time, you should of course go to Edinburgh and give my buddy Andy a look up. www.edinburghfoodfestival.com and bigbuzzard.blogspot.com. Now that's good eatin.

Hi Julian (welcome!) Well it's only a draft date...if you've an alternative throw it out!
Yes Lori - normally we put the kettle on for visitors but I think on this occasion we can do what comes unnaturally and go for a drink :)

Pardon my manners - thanks for the welcome. I'll ask around and see who's free when. I've lots of good employee points to try and earn before I scallywag off to Norway with the band... http://www.sildajazz.no/VisArtist.aspx?ArtistId=595.

You know I'm always up for it. Any time in August should be good as long as it's before the 28th.

Hi,
Great idea, and very timely for me, as I'll be decorating my new flat that weekend! Would love to come out and get a break from the paint fumes. Saturday 19th is cool by me.

Where do I sign up for the booze and ice-cream event? :)

That's great! maybe you can all pick this up on you own blogs closer to the time? I think "bloggers, booze and ice cream" needs to be the revised title of this post....here comes the editing..

I'm up for it! To make a suggestion, most Business bloggers may find during the week (after work) a better time. Or that could just be me having to struggle in from the wilds of Drogheda (yes, we have electricty and internet there :-)

Good point Paul - but I think there may be others in Dublin from even further afield (see Mr Mulley there - not to mention the booze people!)...let's keep an eye on this and see how it evolves...

Great idea, Annette, I'm going the that Mantua Festival on the 19th and 20th, but am free the Saturday before and after, but go ahead with a date suits most people.

Would love to go along and meet a few of these blog-types face to face, not sure if the 19th of August will suit though, I might be away but any date before then should be cool (and I'll be ready for any after that too... sure won't the Irish Blog Awards 2007 be kicking off it's long list in the next few months :D)

Ok ok, one slight problem, I'm planning on hosting a fundraising ball on the 19th that I was going to invite the Irish blogging community along to. I hope to have details of it finalised by this weekend, and will be blogging about it as soon as I do. If it goes ahead, and people are looking for a venue, then, I can put it on. Granted, it will be out in a marquee in Julianstown, Co. Meath, but, there will be entertainment, booze, food and transport arranged, so, it might appeal a little more...and it's for a good cause! :)

I'm sort of limited trying to accommodate my American blogger friends so if Saturday isn't going to work for people how about Monday 21st? If it looks like out of towners are going to try and make it then I think we should stick with 19th ... maybe people could say where they are based?

As long as it's not the 16th (or whatever day the LC results come out), I'm in.

Now if you had said August 12th, I'd be there. Flying into Dublin for the weekend. Boo!

Sounds interesting. Will see if we can make it.
What sort of time are people thinking?
If I tried to make it, I would probally be travelling up and down in the one day by train.

Annette,
I'd love to come - it will be difficult what with the new baby and all, I'll have to see if I can get permission to abandon the homestead for the day!

Hi Annette and all
I am on the last day of holidays so will not be able to make this. Enjoy it those of you who do :-)

Unfortunately August is not a possibility for me, since it's high season. Once we get into September and beyond much more is possible...
